Puddle Ducks This “Land based and on water” introduction to sailing program will run at OGYC for four “half days” for two weeks during our Jr. Sailing program.

Many of our Jr. Sailors at OGYC started with this Puddle Duck program at a young age and haven’t stopped sailing since!

Age: 6 & 7 yrs old or going into first grade

River Rookies
Beginner sailor (Ages 7-10) & (Ages 11+) 2 - Two Week Sessions: 4 days a week / 9am – 3pm This “Land based and on water” introduction to sailing program course is designed for the beginner sailor with little or no experience.

It will focus on fun activities where they will learn the basics of sailing and boat handling, sailing fundamentals, seamanship, sportsmanship and weather safety.

Sailors will have a minimum of 3 days on the water in an Opti or a sunfish. Instructors may take the beginner sailors for rides on a sunfish or Feva.

A boat is not necessary. Instruction will include:

• knowing the parts of the boat 
• being able to label all the parts of the boat 
• being comfortable steering the boat 
• know starboard vs. port and windward vs. leeward 
• know how to tie knots (figure-8, square, bowline) 
• water safety •
  be able to tack and jib safely
